The Irish men’s cricket team have arrived in Hobart ahead of the start of the 2022 men’s ICC T20 World Cup, which begins against Zimbabwe on Monday – and Paul Stirling was speaking from the team hotel after arriving in the Tasmanian capital. Stirling, 32, made his international debut against New Zealand in a one-day international match in 2008 and made his T20 International debut against Pakistan in 2009. He has 340 caps for Ireland, including 114 T20Is – and scored 3,011 runs in T20Is, the sixth-highest run scorer in the world in that format. “Of course we would have liked to have played a few more warm-up games, but the boys showed very good sessions on the nets or in the hall. We still have a few training sessions in Hobart to hone some skills before the first game, but we feel ready for Monday’s first game against Zimbabwe. Playing at the MCG the other night was a great experience for the team – I’ve never played there myself and it just gave the lads a bit of extra motivation as they now want to go back there and play in front of a crowd on one of the most famous cricket grounds in the world,” said Stirling.

Led by Craig Irvine, Zimbabwe will look to cause another upset like neighboring country Namibia, who stunned Asia Cup 2022 champions Sri Lanka.
