NEVADA, Mon- The Ottawa University women’s flag football team advanced to a 3-0 lead in the KCAC game Wednesday night at Logan Field with a 41-0 win over Cottey College.
It didn’t take long for the Braves to find the end zone against Cottey, just 1:08 into the first quarter of the game. on the third and second Abby Brown stepped in front of the Comet quarterback’s pass and returned the ball 20 yards for a pick six. The extra point pass attempt over Madysen Carrera was good and OU led 7-0.
The Brave defense forced a turnover from the Comets and OU took over CU’s 12 yard line. Carrera joined two plays later Bailey Hodgins for the 12-yard touchdown and Ottawa led 13-0 with 8:46 in the first quarter.
Ottawa extended its lead over the Comets with 3:08 remaining at halftime. The Braves put together a seven play 61-yard drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Carrera to Tatiana Dos Santos. The Braves converted the 2-point extra try and OU went into the dressing room 21-0.
In the second half, Ottawa was 3-for-3 in goal drives. The Braves received the ball to start the third quarter. That drive went for seven plays and 66 yards and ended with a touchdown pass from Carrera to Mandolin Scalisi. The 1-point attempt was good and with 8:42 in the third quarter, Ottawa led 28-0.
The OU defense forced a punt from Cottey and Ottawa’s offense took over their own 39-yard line. Seven games later, Ottawa found the end zone again. Carrera completed an eight-yard touchdown pass Jazlyn Camacho. Carrera’s 1-point pass attempt was good and the Braves led 35-0 in the third quarter with 44 seconds left.
Two plays into the Comet Drive gave Ottawa’s defense the ball back on offense. Faron Maluff intercepted the Cottey quarterback at the CC 31-yard line and returned the ball to the Cottey 25-yard line. Kimberly Ibarra hit from three yards to give the Braves the lead and the game, 41-0.
