Second seed Rafael Nadal outwitted Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis in the second round. The win extended his winning streak to nine games since his 2022 French Open triumph.
The Spaniard will battle 27th seeded Lorenzo Sonego for a place in the last 16 at the Wimbledon Championships.
Where does Rafael Nadal play?
Nadal will compete at the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Club.
The 36-year-old made his debut in 2003 and won the legendary Grand Slam twice in his career.
Who is Rafael Nadal playing against?
World No. 4 Nadal will face world No. 54 Lorenzo Sonego in the third round of SW19.
Sonego has had an average season so far, with a success rate of 46 percent, and counts among his best results when he reaches the semi-finals of the Argentina Open and most recently the quarter-finals of the Boss Open. He took a set against second-seeded Matteo Berrettini but failed to get over the line in Stuttgart’s last eight games.
The Italian entered Wimbledon after early eliminations from the Queen’s Club Championship and Eastbourne Rothesay International. However, Sonego started his Wimbledon campaign in good fashion with a hard-fought first-round win over Denis Kudla and a calculated second-round performance against Hugo Gaston, overcoming a straight-set challenge from the Frenchman 7-6 (4) ,6-4,6-4.
The 27-year-old is making his fourth appearance at the All England Club this year and his previous best was reaching the round of 16 in 2021, where he was edged out by 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer.
Compared to other surfaces, Sonego has a good record on grass. He will go into Round 3 an underdog but determined to be at his best against the Spaniard.
