Where to watch “All Quiet On The Western Front” online

The universal appeal of World War I veteran Erich Maria Remarque’s novel, Tranquility on the Western Front, transcends time. The latest film adaptation of the book is just hard proof of that. Especially given that the novel has already been adapted in the past; as early as 1930 by director Lewis Milestone, who even won the Best Picture award at the Oscars, and then in 1979 by director Delbert Mann in the form of a CBS television film.

The 2022 adaptation of the novel was directed by director Edward Berger, who has previously worked on shows such as Deutschland 83 and The Terror. The film follows young German soldier Paul Bäumer as he experiences the ugliness of war after enlisting in the German army. The period that the film shows is mainly the last days of the First World War.

All Quiet on the Western Front premiered at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2022; which followed exclusive theatrical releases in Paris and New York City on October 7 and an extended release on October 14. The film received critical acclaim for being fiercely faithful to Remarque’s novel and for conveying an anti-war message. In addition to the main story, it also contains a parallel, official storyline covering the negotiations to end the war.

It also received recognition in up to seven other categories, including the Adapted Screenplay category for Beger and his co-writers Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell; eventually getting a total of nine nominations.
