Weekly City of Milwaukee COVID-19 Update
MILWAUKEE — The disease burden in the city of Milwaukee this week fell to 239.1 new positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over seven days and remains in the extreme transmission category. The percentage of positive COVID-19 test results dropped to 12.8%, hovering in the extreme transmission category. Additionally, Milwaukee County has been placed in the high COVID-19 community level per the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
Currently, 64.7% of adults 16 years and older in the city of Milwaukee are fully vaccinated, and 48.8% of fully vaccinated individuals have received a booster shot. Of children ages 5 to 11, 20.2% completed their pediatric COVID-19 vaccine series and 24.4% received at least one dose.
Following approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the CDC approved a recommendation for children ages 5 to 11 to receive a booster dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine at least five months after completing their primary series of immunizations. All Milwaukee Health Department COVID-19 locations offer this booster dose to eligible individuals. Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is currently the only primary and booster vaccine approved and recommended for 5-17 year olds.
COVID-19 services will be closed Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day observation in addition to all Department of Health clinic and office hours. Beginning Tuesday, May 31, the Milwaukee Health Department will adjust operating hours for the three COVID-19 locations. Adjusted hours reflect current demand for COVID-19 services. Locations are able to increase hours and services if demand requires it.
