Karnataka Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said Tuesday that to mark Good Governance Month in December, live streaming of the Academic Council, Finance Committee and Syndicate meetings of the state’s universities will be launched.
He said in previous years December 25 had been observed as “Good Governance Day” to commemorate the birthday of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This year, however, it was decided to mark the whole of December as “Good Governance Month” in the Departments of Higher Education, Electronics/IT-BT/ and Skills Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods he heads.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai would inaugurate the initiatives on December 1st.
“In order to bring more transparency into the university management system, live streaming of the meetings of the academic council, the finance committee and the syndicate would be initiated. Once implemented, this would continue as a regular phenomenon. The live streaming will be via social media platforms,” Narayan said.
Universities have also been instructed to upload all information to their websites by December 10. “This also applies to affiliated and constituent universities. If constituent colleges don’t have their own website, they have to upload the information to the university’s website,” he said.
Websites should contain all information, including tuition fees, sanctioned funds, ongoing projects, details of teaching and non-teaching staff, he added. The minister further pointed out that in order to achieve effective implementation of the NEP (National Education Policy), universities need to prepare an Institution Development Plan and it is mandatory according to NITI Aayog, the minister said, adding that the State Higher Education Council in the first one Workshop will organize December week in this regard.
A renewed version of the Skill Connect portal of the Skill Development Department will also be launched by the Premier on December 1, he said, and the building of the Skill Center in Bengaluru and the Multi-Skill Center in Hubli will also be inaugurated.
The Department of Electronics/IT-BT/S&T will conduct capacity-building programs to mark the occasion to promote women’s entrepreneurship, rural entrepreneurship and start-ups, Narayan said. The programs in Bengaluru, Hubballi, Belagavi and Mangaluru are collaborating with institutions such as Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), HDFC, etc.
The installation of newly developed software to facilitate the activities of women’s support groups is also planned, he said.
