Top Seniors in the Class of 2023

With the Class of 2023 hitting the football field this fall, there are already a handful of players who have collegiate commitments or have offers from Division I FBS and FCS programs.

Christ School and Reynolds are leaders with three players each, but five other schools also currently have a player on this list. We’ll be updating it throughout the season as players continue to get attention from colleges.

2022 SOCCER: Complete schedules for all WNC teams

2021 SOCCER: Last year’s All-WNC team

Russell Barnett

School: Reynolds

Position: DL

Height: 6-3

Weight: 265

Offers: Presbyterian

Remarks: Barnett’s quick-twitch explosiveness is a find for his size, and resulted in 12 tackles for loss in a junior year.

Cancel Quinton

School: Christ school

Position: DB

Height: 5-11

Weight: 175

Offers: Dartmouth

Remarks: A fast cornerback, Cancel had 22 tackles and an interception as a junior.

Asher Cunningham

School: Reynolds

Position: LB

Height: 6-2

Weight: 230

Offers: Furmann, Wolford

Remarks: Cunningham started running back as a sophomore but switched to defense as a junior with great results. The two programs of the Upstate Southern Conference offered the hard-hitting linebacker in the spring.

Chad Giarrusso

School: mitchell

Position: p/k

Height: 5-11

Weight: 195

Offers: none

Remarks: Giarrusso’s transfer from Avery County to Mitchell for his senior year strengthens the Mountaineers’ backfield and immediately gives them one of the best special teams in WNC. He averaged 43.9 yards per punt and was 28-33 on extra points last year.

Demetrase graves

School: erwin

Position: DB/WR

Height: 6-3

Weight: 180

Offers: Campbell

Remarks: One of Erwin’s best players on both sides of the ball, Graves had 29 receptions for 319 yards and three points at wide receiver and five defense interceptions in 2021.

Ty Handley

School: Franklin

Position: RB/LB

Height: 6-2

Weight: 210

Offers: Presbyterian

Remarks: Handley is one of the most physical runners in WNC and a destroyer on offense and defense. As a junior, he rushed for 1,015 yards (6.2 per carry) and nine touchdowns.

Luke Kachilo

School: WestHenderson

Position: QB

Height: 6-1

Weight: 190

Offers: Gardner-Webb (verbal commitment)

Remarks: One of WNC’s top guns, Kachilo, missed three games with a shoulder injury but still threw for 2,129 yards in 2021. Able to dodge pass rushers and keep his eyes down, he uses his mobility to lengthen plays rather than picking up yards himself.

Dylan Lindsey

School: Christ school

Position: OIL

Height: 6-3

Weight: 285

Offers: Presbyterian

Remarks: Lindsey primarily played guard for the greenies, but also has the length and agility to play tackle.

Weight: 190

Offers: NC State (verbal acceptance), Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Duke, Ole Miss, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, Charlotte, East Carolina, Liberty, Louisville, Syracuse, Virginia

DaShawn Stone

School: Reynolds

Position: S

Height: 6-3

Weight: 185

Offers: Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Liberty, Coast Carolina, Charlotte, Connecticut, Princeton
