Sun Devil Men Basketball Postgame Quotes – at SMU

Arizona State Basketball Head Coach Bobby Hurley
What Comeback on the Road says about her character…
“The more games we win, the bigger the goal becomes. So when we get to places like this, the teams are primed and ready to play. We didn’t get any stops early in the game and they hit their threes. The last four minutes of the first half were crucial for us. We got a lot of stops and I thought our defense was excellent in the second half.”

In the second half…
“Our defense was excellent and attacking, we moved the basketball well; 18 assists to 27 field goals scored, so it’s nice to see the basketball breakdown. The points in colour, we attacked from dribbling and were also solid to play the basket. I thought this was probably Alonzo Gaffney’s best game of the season, just his efficiency in defending in the second half and making a big three. He made a really good game.

On the influence of DJ Horne…
“Early on in the game before we could get our feet under us he was hitting some really big shots and he was really solid throughout the game. He does that, he’s a guy we can count on in big games when it comes to points goes.”

On Defensive Adjustments After SMU Hot Start…
“We emphasized more intensity on three-point shooters and only got one hand up, which makes it difficult. They played really hard early in the game and sometimes as the game progresses it can take its toll on the shooters.”

Arizona State Men’s Basketball Guard DJ Horne
On what he saw offensively early in the game…
“I was just trying to let the game flow to me. I came into the game on a crunch. As a shooter, you don’t want to just start throwing them up and getting in your head. I was just trying to let the game come to me me and it seemed like shots were coming my way, my teammates found me in a position to score and after seeing the first one go in I knew I had to be aggressive.

On defensive adjustments in the second half…
“We’ve focused more on the game plan as a whole. We led shooters off the line. They got off to a hot start in terms of shooting so we made a point of running them off the line and that ultimately got our defense going because they stopped taking shots afterwards.”

To the deep…
“We said it from the start, we are a strong team. On nights like tonight when things are a bit slow offensively we need guys who are ready to come off the bench and tonight we showed we can do that.”
