Spokane Valley stabbing suspect identified with lead from public

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane Valley Police Department (SVPD) reports that a stabbing suspect was identified and arrested Tuesday, thanks in part to tips from the public.

According to the SVPD, the victim walked on the 10300 block of Sprague Ave. walking when an unknown assailant approached him from behind and attacked him. According to deputies, the victim tried to fight off the suspect and suffered a deep knife wound on his hand. The suspect allegedly threatened the victim and said he would come back later before running away. The victim said he knew the man who attacked him.

Using leads from the community, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 27-year-old Trever Hemen.

Major crime detectives, along with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Task Force on Violent Crimes and detectives from the SVPD Investigative Unit, were able to locate the Hemen north of the area where the attack took place.

Detectives found probable cause to arrest Hemen for first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation remains active and no further information is available at this time. However, the SVPD would like to thank the community for their help.

A man was stabbed to death Aug. 16 at the 10300 block of Sprague Avenue, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said.

According to the SCSO, the victim, an adult male, called 911 at around 1:10 a.m. to report that he was being assaulted by an unknown suspect. During the attack, police said the suspect tried to stab the victim, who fought back but sustained a deep laceration on his hand.

The victim told police he did not recognize the suspect and did not know why he was attacked. He said the suspect told him he would be back later before running northeast via Sprague.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they applied a tourniquet and worked to control the bleeding until the Spokane Valley Fire arrived and provided medical care.

Officers could not find the suspect. The victim described the suspect as a white male, approximately 30 years old, 5′ 8″ and weighing 180 pounds. He wore black shorts with a white or silver stripe down the bottom and a black hoodie with the hood pulled up.

The suspect had short facial hair that appeared light brown or strawberry blonde. The victim said the suspect appeared to have the legs of a pair of jeans wrapped on both arms from his wrist to his elbows.
