Saville has been impressive this year
Daria Saville is 3-3 on grass including qualifiers this year. The 28-year-old Australian will compete at Wimbledon for the sixth time. She has won just three games on the grass-court major, with her best being a third-round finish in 2018.
Before this year’s Wimbledon, Saville lost in the opening round at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. She won her two qualifiers in Berlin and then defeated Jil Teichman in the opening round but fell to Maria Sakkari in the second round. She also took part in the qualifiers at Eastbourne, but did not progress past the first qualifying round, losing in three sets to Yuriko Miyazaki.
Hampered by injuries, Saville had fallen below 400 in the rankings for the past two years but has made a solid comeback this year. Currently ranked 98th in the world, Saville reached the Quarterfinals in Miami and the Round of 16 in Indian Wells.
She was also a quarterfinalist in Guadalajara and reached the third round of Roland Garros. Thanks to these performances, Saville is 12:9 in the main draw of the tour. She wants to start with a win on Monday.
Tomova in good shape
Viktoriya Tomova heads into her second Wimbledon in good form. The 27-year-old Bulgarian, who reached the second round on her All England Club debut in 2018, was a quarter-finalist at Eastbourne.
Tomova won the first qualifying round against Anna Danilina, but failed in the second qualifying round against Kirsten Flipkens. However, she made it into the main draw as a lucky loser and then went on to have back-to-back wins over Shelby Rogers and Flipkens respectively.
Her run eventually ended in a straight set loss to Camila Giorgi.
Tomova, who has never made the top 100, is hoping to carry her form from Eastbourne into the tournament.
