SAN ANTONIO SPURS ANNOUNCE ADDITIONAL BASKETBALL OPERATIONS AND PROMOTIONS

SAN ANTONIO (September 23, 2022) – The San Antonio Spurs today announced several additions and promotions to the team’s coaching and basketball teams.

The team has risen in the Spurs front office David Telep to vice president of basketball operations and David Kaplan to manager of basketball analytics.

San Antonio Coaching Staff added Candice Dupree in player development. The team has also moved up Willis Hall and Greg Stiemsma in player development, Josh Brannon to the main video coordinator, and Kenny Trevino as assistant video coordinator.

In Spurs’ medical and performance group, the team has grown Carlos Sosa Marin as an athletic performance coach. San Antonio has also promoted Chastity Chov to Assistant Athletic Coach and Ryan Curtis to the performance coach.

Chov becomes the Spurs assistant athletic coach after serving as San Antonio’s Medical Assistant II last season. She joined the organization in 2020 and spent the 2020-21 season as the Austin Spurs’ assistant athletic coach. Prior to Silver and Black, Chov was the associate director of sports medicine at the University of Nevada from 2019-20, working with the men’s basketball team. Chov earned a master’s degree from Michigan State in 2019 while working for the Spartans football and men’s basketball teams, and graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Texas at Austin.

Curtis is entering his fourth season with Spurs after serving two years as Athletic Performance Data Manager for Spurs from 2019-21. He was previously Director of Athlete Performance and Safety at the Korey Stringer Institute (University of Connecticut) after working as a strength coach and athletic coach for the US Marine Corps, the US Tennis Association and privately for professional tennis players on the ATP/WTA World Tour . Curtis received his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Culver-Stockton College in 2006, his master’s degree in kinesiology from Kansas State in 2009, and his doctorate in exercise science from UConn in 2019.

dupree joins the Spurs after playing 16 years in the WNBA, where she currently ranks fifth in league history in career points scored (6,895). A seven-time WNBA All-Star and 2014 champion with the Phoenix Mercury, Dupree also streaked for Chicago, Indiana, Seattle and Atlanta in her run, currently ranking third all-time in field goals scored and fifth in games played and seventh in total rebounds. After playing for Dawn Staley at Temple for four years from 2002 to 2006, she was selected by Sky as the sixth overall pick in the 2006 WNBA draft. A Tampa, Florida native, he has also played professionally in Poland, Slovakia, Russia, China, Czech Republic and Hungary. Dupree was part of the Spurs coaching staff at the 2022 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

room spent last season as San Antonio’s player development assistant. He previously served as the Spurs’ video coordinator for three seasons from 2018-21 and is entering his seventh season at San Antonio after joining the team in 2016 as a quality assurance assistant in the team’s video department. Before joining Silver and Black, Hall played professionally for two seasons in Portugal and Luxembourg. The Charlotte native played four seasons at the College of Charleston and made 137 appearances during his career from 2009 to 2014.

chaplain becomes Spurs manager of basketball analytics after spending the last four seasons as a senior data scientist in San Antonio. Prior to joining Silver and Black, Kaplan spent three seasons from 2015-18 with the Charlotte Hornets as a Manger of Basketball Analytics and Quantitative Analyst, after spending the 2014-15 season with the Portland Trail Blazers as a Statistical Programmer. Kaplan graduated from Wesleyan University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in biological chemistry.

Sosa Marin joins Spurs from Real Madrid Baloncesto in Spain, where he has spent the last eight years working as a strength and conditioning coach and reconditioning specialist for the EuroLeague team. From 2014 to 2022 he was also Associate Professor of Health and Medicine at the Universidad Europea de Madrid, where he taught sports physiotherapy. Prior to Real Madrid, the Spaniard was Head of Strength and Conditioning and Head of Physiotherapy at Club Estudiantes for 15 years from 1999 to 2014, where he also coached the organisation’s youth teams. Sosa Martin holds a PhD in Sports Sciences from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

breast ma spent last season in the Spurs video room after spending two seasons as a player development associate with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2019-21. He played four seasons in the NBA with Boston, Minnesota, New Orleans and Toronto. After four years at the University of Wisconsin from 2004 to 2008, Stiemsma played abroad in Turkey and Korea before lining up for the Sioux Falls Skyforce and winning the 2010 NBA D-League Defensive Player of the Year. He made his NBA debut with the Celtics in 2011 and also attended training camps with Portland and Orlando. Stiemsma was on the coaching staff of the Spurs Summer League team in 2022.

Telep served as the San Antonio director of player personnel from 2019-22 and previously served as the team’s director of scouting from 2016-2019, after joining Spurs in 2013 as the team’s scouting coordinator. Before joining Silver and Black, he was a Senior National Recruiting Analyst at ESPN.com. He also spent time as a sideline reporter for ESPNU and as a studio analyst for Recruiting Nation. Telep was also a member of the USA Developmental National Committee for the US national team.

Trevin spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Austin Spurs after serving as Austin’s assistant coach in 2019-20. Trevino first joined the Spurs organization in 2012 as a ball boy for San Antonio and later became an assistant equipment manager for the team in the 2016–17 season. He worked in San Antonio’s video room from 2016 to 2019 before joining the Austin coaching staff. A native of Laredo, Texas, he graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2016.
