Emma Raducanu struggled a lot in her first round matchup against Linda Noskova as the 17-year-old player from the Czech Republic won the opening set and had a break in the 2nd. Raducanu kept fighting and being patient when things weren’t going so well.
She was able to win the match and move into round one. It was a solid performance from Raducanu, but also one that showed she can be vulnerable on this surface. Her back problems seem to be a thing of the past as she moves quite well and it’s very good to see.
She’s only 8-9 a year but 5-3 on clay. Many wondered how she would play on the surface and she was pretty decent. She’ll be motivated to face Sasnovich again so this could be a very good spot for Raducanu to secure a round three in Paris.
Outstanding year for Sasnovich
Sasnovich has been a consistent performer for a while, but it seems like she’s finally figured it all out in 2022. She is 22-10 a year with some very strong performances on all surfaces. Clay isn’t her best, but she’s down 7-4, showing she has a game for all surfaces.
Sasnovich played a lot of matches and was pretty decent. Most of the time she beats players who are worse than her and puts up a very good fight against players who are better than her. I expect the same for Raducanu, especially since the Brit is vulnerable.
She defeated Xinyu Wang 6-4, 6-1 in round one, showing some of the good form she showed in Strasbourg last week. If she can keep up, it’s going to be a very close affair.
Raducanu v Sasnovich prediction and tip
I don’t see any player running away with it. We could see three sets because both have shown a high level, but both can also be attacked. Raducanu is a little more unpredictable, but that’s just her playstyle. She doesn’t have a lot of variety in her game right now, but she will make it.
Sasnovich took her match at Indian Wells with Raducanu missing a lot throughout. She will try again but the Brit should be prepared. I think it’s going to be very close, but it’s going to hit Emma’s bat. If she can be patient like she did against Noskova, she should be the favourite.
I will support Emma simply because I think she is the better player overall. She seems healthy too, so let’s see how she handles the tricky Sasnovich.
