Jessica Pegula vs. Tamara Zidansek head to head
They’ve played before and it happened in Auckland in 2020. Pegula won 6-2 6-3.

Pegula dominates in 2022
Jessica Pegula has been working very hard over the last few years and in 2022 she is finally seeing the real benefits. Up to 11th in the rankings with a Premier 1000 event final in Madrid and a 21-11 record overall and 9-3 on clay.
She dominates players on all surfaces with her heavy-hitting playstyle that leaves players very confused as to how to counter it. She serves well and is accurate with her shots. Consistency is the last thing in her game that she needs to develop in order to really unleash herself.
She played a bit shaky in round one, but easily defeated her opponent. In round two she increased her level incredibly to beat 49 winners in one match against a very tricky opponent. If she hadn’t nearly choked the match, it would have been perfect.
These confidence issues are sometimes present in Pegula and this can be a real problem for them, especially if the opponent takes advantage of it.
Zidansek Back in Paris
Tamara Zidansek had a big break in Paris last year, reaching the semifinals but losing to Pavlyuchenkova. The Slovenian is a well-known clay court specialist, having done very little off that surface. On clay she can use her very spin-heavy forehand to open up the court properly.
She hasn’t played that much this year mainly due to injuries and that part needs improvement. She’s 9-8 and only 2-3 on clay, but she’s playing well again in Paris.
She effortlessly eliminated Clare Liu in straight sets behind 15 winners. It wasn’t Zidansek’s typical attacking performance, but rather a very clever way of attacking a player prone to errors. If she can maintain that maturity she will be hard to beat
It is very unlikely that she will beat Pegula, but she must find a way to counter Pegula, who is out for blood with her aggressive playstyle.
Pegula v Zidansek prediction and tip
So this matchup will take place on Pegula’s racquet. She is the far better player with far more aggression in her game. She will attack and hope Zidansek doesn’t come up with answers. She might be right, but it won’t be that easy. The Slovenian’s forehand can cause some problems even on defence.
The only time they played Pegula she dominated but it was on hard courts so that’s no surprise. Things will be different all the time, but I don’t see her winning if Pegula is her usual self. I trust the American because now is hardly the right time to doubt her.
