Rafael Nadal vs. Tommy Paul head to head
There was a previous meeting between these two players and that took place in Acapulco earlier this year. Nadal had won that in straight sets

Nadal returns after the US Open
The only competitive game Nadal has played since his fourth-round elimination at the US Open earlier this year was the Laver Cup, where he combined with Roger Federer one last time.
He returns to ATP tennis ranked second in the world and has a chance to end the year as the best player but has categorically said he is not looking for that fight.
And while that would be icing on a brilliant year in which he has already won a couple of Grand Slam titles, Nadal has other, more important things on his mind. Like becoming a father for the first time.
Whether that would factor into that opening draw against Paul remains to be seen, but what could certainly matter is the possibility of some rusting.
It’s been almost two months since Nadal has appeared in a singles match and while he’s not an amateur, that could prove to be a small advantage for his opponent.

Fighting Paul stuns Bautista-Agut
Things haven’t quite gone well since his second-round win over Sebastian Korda at the US Open, with the American going into this tournament with a 3-4 win-loss record at the ATP circuit.
That’s probably why he was a 4/3 underdog in his opening game against Roberto Bautista-Agut. And because of that, a straight-set win over his Spanish opponent would have been the last thing on his mind.
In the end, Paul was on the court for an hour and 28 minutes as he overcame a Bautista-Agut breakback in the opening set for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
The American now has to face another Spaniard, this time a player with 22 Grand Slam titles under his belt, and it might not be the easiest task.
The only tiny advantage Paul might have is that Nadal’s absence from the tour could give him a quicker start. Would he still be able to endure it?
Nadal v Paul prediction and tip
Nadal will be a huge favorite here and while the American could have that initial advantage, we still count on a straight-set win for the Spaniard.
