Mountaineer Park Picks for July 31, 2022

If you want more horse racing on Sunday then there is plenty of action to be found on this map. We want to continue with more wins after crushing Del Mar in California.

Cashe’s American theorem

American Theoren was all cash with an impressive performance of 7/1 in the $400,000 Bing Crosby Stakes (Gr. 1). The son of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah is heading to Keeneland for the Breeders’ Cup in November.

Check out our Emerald Downs picks for this afternoon in Washington for more Sunday betting tips. Mountaineer Park has an evening show in West Virginia with a $95,900 prize pool. Below are our top Mountaineer Park picks for July 31, 2022.

race 4

(1) My backs

+250 (5/2)

(2) Free-running

+300 (3/1)

(3) Sister Katie

+450 (9/2)

(5) Tavito of love

+500 (5/1)

Race 4 is a $7,800 event that spans 5 stages on the dirt. Look for Free to Run and My Back Pages to perform this task well.

Free to Run is 1 for 12 and 2nd, 7th, 1st in their last three runs. She looked at her best on June 23 at Penn National. Free to Run won after a DQ, finishing 3 ¾ lengths behind Sakari.

Sakari was disqualified and Free to Run took over as the winner. At her last showing, she placed 2nd a half length behind Nurse Katie for $7,700.

My backs are 1 for 11 and 1st, 4th, 2nd in their last three starts. The filly walks away on July 19, winning 3 ½ lengths for $7,700 in prize money.

That was impressive after My Back Pages fell back to easier competition. Inside, if she runs like this again, expect a winning ride.

race 5

(1) Somerset Bay

+250 (5/2)

(4) Big Game Bob

+600 (6/1)

(5) True crossbreed

+450 (9/2)

(6) Stupid equation

+1500 (15/1)

(7) Bold Chrome

+300 (3/1)

Tonight’s race 5 features 6 furlongs for a purse of $7,900. Consider Aced and Somerset Bay strong performers on this task.

Aced is 3 for 30 and has finished 2nd, 4th and 3rd in their last three games. The gelding was last placed 2nd behind Van Damme with 1 length for a price of $7,900.

He finished fourth in a $7,900 event on June 5th. That was disappointing but Aced showed much better form in his next and final race.

Somerset Bay are 3 for 22 and 4th, 10th, 8th in their last three games. In his last start, Somerset Bay finished 4th on June 9th for $15,700.

That could have been better but Somerset Bay has it easier on Sunday night. This is one of his easiest outings in a long time. Expect Somerset Bay to win the bid

race 6

(3) Sexy business

+500 (5/1)

(4) Jackzilla

+1000 (10/1)

(5) Awesome Ox

+300 (3/1)

(6) Rum on the Rocks

+1200 (12/1)

Race 6 is a $10,100 event that includes 5 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Kolsch and Red Mesa are expected to emerge with strong performances in the sixth.

Kolsch is 3 for 18 and has finished 4th, 1st, 5th and 1st in his last four starts. In the penultimate race, Kolsch beat Siakam by 10 ¼ lengths in a blowout for $9,400.

However, the gelding didn’t get the same start on July 20th in his last appearance. He finished fourth for a prize of $14,200. Back in class, Kolsch was supposed to jump in.

Red Mesa is 3 for 10 and has finished 5th, 1st and 1st in his last three races. On May 6th and June 16th he won two consecutive $19,542 and $11,800 events. In the last win, Red Mesa beat Dreaming of Love by two lengths for $11,800.

However, Red Mesa fell off at Laurel Park on July 4. That was just too tough as Red Mesa settled for 5th place in a $24,720 event. A transfer to West Virginia for a $10,100 event should put Red Mesa on top.
