What you should know
The Mississippi State Bulldogs have the luxury of staying home for another week and will welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks to Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field on Oct. 8 at noon ET. The Bulldogs are looking to keep their three-game winning streak alive.
On Saturday, MSU’s offense faced the challenge against an A&M defense that averaged just 11.75 legal points. They celebrated a comfortable 42-24 win over the Texas A&M Aggies. The win even came about when MSU disabled themselves with 122 penalty yards. MSU QB Will Rogers threw it as he passed for three TDs and 329 yards on 45 tries. Topping the highlight reel was Rogers’ 75-yard TD bomb against WR Rara Thomas in the fourth quarter.
MSU’s defense was also present as they accumulated two interceptions and two fumbles. CB Emmanuel Forbes picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Arkansas entered its game against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday with no home losses — but there’s a first time for everything. Arkansas landed on the wrong side of a painful 49-26 that slammed into Bama’s hands. The Razorbacks found themselves in a difficult position at halftime as the score was already 28-7. RB Raheim Sanders performed well for the losing side as he rushed on 22 carries for a TD and 101 yards.
The Bulldogs are the favorites in this instance with an expected 8-point lead to win. Those who got lucky with them against the spread on Saturday should hold back on placing bets this time around as the squad is yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
MSU’s win put them 4-1, while Arkansas’ loss pulled them back to 3-2. A few offensive stats to keep an eye on: MSU goes into the matchup with 19 touchdowns, which are the best in the nation. Arkansas have shown offensive firepower of their own as they rank ninth in the nation when it comes to rushing yards per game at 232.4 on average.
