The University of Louisville football program signed 13 high school recruits during the early signing phase in December.
And the Cardinals still have a few spots to fill during the late signing period next week.
Two of those prospects are expected on campus this weekend as a four-star high school lineman in New Albany, Indiana Woo Spencer and Nashville, Tenn., Franklin Academy offensive lineman Joe Crocker They are expected to officially visit the campus.
Spencer is a former standout at Louisville Male High School before playing his senior season across the river, while Crocker is a former engagement at Mississippi State. Both players are expected to sign next Wednesday and sign up with a school in May.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Spencer told Cardinal Authority earlier this month that he feels the new U of L staff has made him a priority. U of L defensive coaches Mark Hagen and Ron English made a home visit earlier this month, and then Spencer made an unofficial visit to campus.
“He knows everyone there from Purdue, so they’re not starting from scratch,” Spencer’s trainer Chris Vaughn told the Cardinal Authority earlier this month. “Like Coach Brohm, Coach English and Coach Barclay. You did a great job letting him know he was a priority.”
Spencer, one of the higher-rated and non-binding prospects in the Midwest, has the potential to play on both sides of the line at the college level, but Louisville is recruiting him for his ability to be on the defensive front.
On Christmas Day, Spencer announced the top 4 for Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan State and Mississippi State. He paid an official visit to Kentucky last weekend and is expected to make his decision after this weekend’s visit to Louisville.
247Sports lists Spencer as the nation’s 45th defender nationally and 4th overall in Hoosier State. The industry-created 247Sports Composite places Spencer as the nation’s No. 379 regardless of his position.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Crocker made a commitment to Mississippi State in mid-July but withdrew that commitment in mid-December. He had visited the state of Mississippi, Michigan state and Wisconsin before making his first decision in July.
Crocker has unofficially visited Middle Tennessee and western Kentucky and is expected to be in Appalachian state Friday. But after some discussions with offensive line coach Richard Owens, he’ll be making an official visit to the Cardinals this weekend.
247Sports ranks Crocker as the #70 offensive tackle in the ’23 class and has him as the #25 player in Tennessee. In the 247Sports Composite Ranking, Crocker is #642 overall, #44 in offensive tackles, and #20 state.
