The tournament begins on December 6th with the opening game in between Kings of Jaffna and bile gladiators. The 2022 Lanka Premier League final is set to take place on December 23. A total of 24 matches will be played during the 2022 Lanka Premier League. Of these, 20 games will be played in the league phase. The top 4 teams in the points table after the league stage qualify for the playoffs. The winners of the playoffs meet in the final.

The Lanka Premier League 2022 is the third edition of the tournament. Kings of Jaffna is the defending champion of the tournament. Last season, Jaffna Kings beat Galle Gladiators by 23 runs in the final to lift the trophy.
