Before heading out, make sure you have all the supplies you will need.
Washington weather can change quickly, so it’s important to pack accordingly. Always have enough water available and be sure to pack your camera to capture the beauty of the area. The family dog is welcome to come along, but must always be kept on a leash.
Hike through a canopy and breathe in the earthy smell as the well-maintained trail meanders gently through the forest.
As you make your way through the winding paths, look out for the intriguing structures along the way.
Long before it became a state park, Manchester was known as Middle Point, a fort used to protect the Bremerton shipyards during World War II. Stairs lead to dark and rather spooky abandoned ammo rooms. These days you can explore the remaining buildings and even rent the brick torpedo store for weddings and special events.
Although much of the trail is forested, there are some lovely clifftop lookout points where you can catch a glimpse of playful seals or watch a ferry boat pass through the Rich Passage.
Native plants and wildflowers line the trail, and when you think you’ve made it to the top…
…You have only just begun.

Probably the most difficult part of the loop is the stairs, a steep climb of several dozen steps. You will actually hike more stairs than miles on this trail. However, there is a bench at the top for those who need to take a break. The stairs can certainly be a challenge, but the view is worth the effort.
After a picturesque stroll through the forest, the calm water awaits you – a welcome change after the hike.
Manchester State Park is open year-round for day use and camping. A current Discover Pass is required and can be purchased on the Washington State Parks website.
