The Indian men’s and women’s hockey team will be in action at the inaugural FIH Hockey 5s on Sunday. The Indian men’s team started the season with a 4-3 win over Switzerland on Saturday but drew 2-2 with Pakistan in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Indian women’s team, on the other hand, couldn’t win a game on Saturday, losing both games against Uruguay (3-4) and Poland (1-3).

The Indian men’s team is now third in the points table behind Poland and Pakistan. While the women’s team is bottom with two losses in two games. Now both teams would look to put the disappointment behind when they return to the field on Sunday. The men’s team meets Malaysia and Poland, the women’s team against Switzerland and South Africa.

FIH Hockey 5s: How has India fared so far?

A Hockey 5s match lasts 20 minutes and is divided into two halves of 10 minutes each.

In the second game of the day, the Indian men’s team led twice but conceded a goal in the last minute to earn a 2-2 draw with arch-rivals.

Raheel Mohammed put India ahead with a field goal in the first minute before Laiqat Arshad leveled six minutes later.

India took the lead again in the 18th minute, Gursahibjit Singh scoring, but couldn’t stop Abdul Rehman from leveling for Pakistan seconds from time.

Disappointment in the women’s team

Kujur Ajmina (1st and 7th minutes) scored twice while Phalke Vaishnavi Vithal (18th) was the other scorer for India against Uruguay in the first game of the day. Uruguay’s captain Viana Teresa (2nd, 10th and 19th) scored three times while Vilar Manuela (6th) was the other scorer.

Later, the Indian team, led by Etimarpu Rajani, was outplayed 3-1 by Poland. Rashmita Minz (6th) was India’s sole goalscorer.
