FRIDAY PRELIMS HEAT SHEET
The third day of the 2022 Minnesota Invitation is here. This morning we have heats of the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast and 100 Back.
Star breaststroke swimmer from Minnesota Max McHugh will be in action in the men’s 100 chest this morning. On the other hand, Anna Elendt from Texas and Lydia Jacobi are by far the top finishers in the women’s 100 breast.
Luke Hobson of Texas leads the field in the men’s 200 free this morning. Cal’s Gabriel Jett, who had a fantastic summer and carried that momentum into this fall, is another name to watch alongside Texas’ Coby Carrozza.
Carson and Jake Foster will also be in action in the men’s 400 IM where they are the top two seeds.
Texas’ Kelly Pash pulls double duty this morning. Pash is the top seed in both the women’s 100 Fly and 200 Free this morning.

The Texas Fly Group lives up to the hype. Even without Olivia Bray on this morning’s list, the Longhorns picked up three “A” finalists in the event, including the top two qualifiers. Kelly Pash and Emma Sticklen were fast this morning, swimming 51.01 and 51.10 respectively. Both swimmers finished just under the NCAA A-average of 50.92.
Cal’s Mia Kragh was next and swam a 52.03.
Dakota Luther swam a 52.76, also making it to the A final for Texas.
Arizona had two swimmers who made it, with Maddy Burt and Julia Heimstead both advancing.

Cal’s Dare Rose led the field by a wide margin this morning, swimming a 45.73. He put in a good swim, dividing 21.20 in the first 50, then 24.53 in the second 50.
Cole Crane from Texas was next and swam a 46.45.
Arizona managed to get three swimmers into the A Finals tonight. Billy Oates was the best wildcat and swam a 46.82. Brooks Taner and Hunter Ingram were close behind.

Megan Van Berkom put in a strong prelim performance of 4:09.97 to lead the field by over four seconds. She swam a well-rounded race, sharing a 56.35 on the fly, 1:04.13 on the back, 1:10.54 on the breaststroke and 58.95 on the freestyle.
Wisconsin’s Katie McClintock also swam very well, finishing second in 4:14.38, just 1.2 seconds off her personal best.

Texas put on a fantastic performance in the men’s 400m IM this morning, taking four swimmers to the A-finals. Carson Foster just finished his season best and swam a 3:38.95 for the best time of the morning. David Johnston was less than a second off his personal best, breaking the 3:40 mark for the first time this season.
Jake Foster was 3:44.70, just under his season best in the event. Newcomer Alec Enyeart swam a 3:50.71, which was enough for sixth place this morning. His swimming is also a personal best for Enyeart.

In her second race of the morning, Pash clocked a 1:44.77 to lead the field. She led Cal’s Mia Motekaitis who had a great swim this morning with a 1:45.01. Motekaitis’ personal best is 1:44.48, giving her a solid preliminary swim.
Cal performed well behind Motekaitis, with Ayla Spitz and Eloise Riley finishing third and fourth respectively.
Remarkably, Arizona’s Julia Heimstead DFS (did not swim) this morning’s race. Heimstead was a likely “A” finalist in this event after leading Arizona’s 800m free relay in 1:45.50 on Wednesday night. Heimstead has already qualified for the A-final of the 100 Fly earlier in the session.
