Want to give your brown hair a subtle but expensive-looking upgrade?

Candlelight brunette is the latest hair color trend that embodies coziness, light and warmth – things we all long for right now as we head into the depths of winter.

For those who don’t have a clue, Milk + Blush hair expert Nicole Petty explains that candlelit hair is all about intensifying the hair’s natural color variation while maintaining a natural look.

She tells Metro.co.uk: “Where dark colored hair can appear flat and one-dimensional, this trend encourages the addition of low-contrast and mid-tone highlights to give the hair warmth and a reflective feel, as if shining in firelight or candlelight .

“Recently rocked by celebrities like Kaia Gerber, Ashley Park and Hailey Bieber, it’s the perfect style for brunettes who want to give their hair a subtle makeover and give it a more expensive look.”

And the best part is that it’s a universally flattering option.

Nicole adds, “The best part is that it can be customized to suit any tone, face shape, hair type, and texture.”

To get the look, Nicole says, it’s best to trust salon professionals, who can advise you on which tones will work best with your hair and give you the best results.

She says: “Ask for subtle highlights that are a shade or two lighter than your natural hair color and your stylist will take care of the rest.

“Warm and cool skin types suit different tones; Honey, caramel, amber, and golden brown highlights work better with warm skin tones as they can maintain and enrich a warm complexion.

“Meanwhile, those with cool skin do better with mocha and rich chocolate tones, which can brighten complexions without washing you out with added warmth.”

Nicole says these highlights should be added to specific areas of the hair that you want to enhance or add volume to.

But she also emphasizes that if you’ve never colored your hair before or are looking for a more understated look, start with more subtle tones to test the style before adding in brighter highlights.
