California 4-star WR Rico Flores is committed to Notre Dame Football

The signing blitz for Notre Dame continued on Sunday. California 4-Star wide receiver Rico Flores made his verbal commitment to the Fighting Irish during an Instagram LIVE session.

The 6ft 1in, 190-pounder from Folsom pre-selected the Irishman to his other two finalists; the Georgia Bulldogs and the Ohio State Buckeyes. In truth, it was probably just down to Notre Dame and Georgia since the Bucks already filled their WR space for the 2023 class.

247 Evaluation:

The 6-foot-1,190-pound verified athlete is built with a college-ready physique as we speak. He has a well muscled and defined frame. He is able to generate a good explosiveness, by the way is built with a powerful lower body. It’s high in the shoulder and chest area. He has a great length and a solid physical condition. Flores is a player with 2-way snaps that exhibit those athletic ability, change of direction, agility, physicality and toughness. He’s suddenly off the ball’s snap, where he uses his speed to create an instant separation from the defender. When defended from outside cover, he’s able to pull off the same separation with a knack for dropping his weight and getting out of his break quickly while still being physical at the top of the route. Once the ball is in the air he does a good job attacking the ball at its peak. You often see soft hands when the ball comes at him. While not a burner, he brings a post-catch toughness and physical running style that adds some yac. He uses a change of pace on his deep vertical routes to step defensively when his hand-eye coordination takes over the deep ball and he’s making those hard catches. Going over center and into traffic to make the tough plays where he knows the defense is waiting to make a play is very comfortable. He plays both on the outside and in the slot, he’s comfortable in the lineup and productive in both places. While not a burner, he understands leverage, runs good routes and uses his size to protect defenders from the ball. Also in the running game he is more than adequate as a blocker where he shows up. The way he plays the game and with a good overall profile, he should offer instance depth and have the ability to play on special teams. Still has room to refine his overall game once in college to become a Power 5 starter.

Flores is Notre Dame’s 18th signing of the 2023 class and the second pass catcher from the Gold Coast. His dedication helps boost Notre Dame’s team recruitment ranking – which is #1 according to 247 Team Composite Rankings.

The Irish struggled to land signings at the wide receiver position last cycle, but heading into July, the combination of Braylon James and Rico Flores is sure to help ease those shortcomings. The promise of more to come this cycle is music to the ears of any Notre Dame fan.
