Shakur Stevenson and Robson Conceição face off in a junior lightweight title fight on Friday. We will update round by round.

That fight turned around a bit at Thursday’s weigh-in. Stevenson came into the 130-pound bout weighing 131.6 pounds. He was given two hours to shed weight but instead chose to vacate his titles. The fight is still going on, but only Conceição can win the belts. Stevenson has decided to move up to the 135lb lightweight division for his next fight and would therefore vacate the belts even if he gained weight.

Stevenson comes into the fray with a dominating performance against Oscar Valdez in which he captured the WBC and Ring Magazine titles by unanimous decision. The 25-year-old Newark native is entering what many believe to be his prime and will look to end his time in the 130-pound division with another dominant win.

Conceição (17-1, 8 KOs) is no stranger to world title fights and gets his second opportunity to steal one. His only loss came from Oscar Valdez in September 2021, Conceição failed to win the WBC super featherweight title, losing by unanimous decision.

Shakur Stevenson will headline against Robson Conceicao tonight on ESPN at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The action begins at 10:00 p.m. ET for the main part of the map.

Stevenson (18, 9 KOs) lost his WBC and WBO super featherweight titles on Thursday on the scale after weighing 131.6 pounds. He says he tried his best to drop the 1.6 pounds but didn’t make it.

As a result, the two belts will be available for Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs) to win tonight but not for Shakur. Boxing 247 will be providing live updates and results from today’s action.

Stevenson had planned to announce he would rise to 135 after his fight with Conceicao, but after losing weight he announced his plans ahead of time.

“As soon as you sit in the tub and you see .4 and you have a whole pound left, you know right there you can’t get to that weight,” Shakur Stevenson told ESPN of his effort to gain weight for Thursday’s weigh-in.

“I spoke to my grandfather; I spoke to James Prince and Antonio Leonard. Everyone agreed with me. I told them, ‘I don’t think I can reach that weight. I do everything in my power.’

“They were right there with me on part of it, so they could actually see the weight loss process. They agreed with me and told me not to risk my health trying to do something that really isn’t possible.

“I know I did everything in my power to try to hit the weight. I just couldn’t. There’s nothing else,” Shakur said when asked if there was anything else he could have done to gain weight. “When your body doesn’t produce sweat.

“So you will lose weight with the water that comes out of you. I calculated that. There was nothing else I could have done. I’ve run, exercised, and hit the hot tub. I’ve done so many different things to gain weight. My life is more important,” Shakur said.

Shakur Stevenson vs. Robson Conceição takes place Friday night on ESPN. In this fight, undefeated Stevenson will pit his WBC, WBO and The Ring super featherweight titles against former Olympic gold medalist Brazil.

Stevenson goes into this fight as a big betting favorite. Last time out, he handed Oscar Valdez the first loss of his career by unanimously deciding to capture the WBC and The Ring titles. The 25-year-old is considered the best super featherweight in the world.

The only loss in Conceição’s record was a decision loss to Valdez in 2021, with the WBC title Stevenson going on to win. He became the first Brazilian boxer to win a gold medal at the Olympics, which he did on home soil at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
