Carlos Alcaraz against Daniil Medvedev head to head
There was a previous meeting between these two players which came at Wimbledon 2021 and Medvedev had won that second round match in straight sets. Much has happened since then for this result to be of too much importance here.

Alcaraz skips the sinner
Alcaraz clinched a straight set win for the fifth straight season, but that could have seen his opponent Jannik Sinner make life much harder for the Spaniard than it had ultimately turned out to be.
Alcaraz was on the pitch for almost two hours in his 7-6 (4), 6-3 win, which saw Sinner miss an opportunity to set point in the first set.
After Alcaraz took a 4-2 break of serve in the fifth game, Sinner came back to equalize in the eighth game. They held on to their serves after that, and Alcaraz faced a break point in game 12 that Sinner missed.
From that point on, Alcaraz looks laser-focused, winning the tie-breaker and not dropping more than two points in any of his service games. In turn, he also broke sinners very early and held serve to bag the encounter.
Alcaraz, who previously beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in the quarterfinals, will be looking to become the youngest player to win both ATP Indian Wells and Miami – having won the latter last year. Can he find a way past the former world number one?

Medvedev stretched by Tiafoe
Medvedev took some time to get going and it wasn’t the easiest win for the world number six either, but in the end he found a way to book a straight set win over Frances Tiafoe.
Medvedev won 7-5, 7-6 (4), making it into the Indian Wells final for the first time in his career. It is also his seventh appearance in a Masters 1000 final.
After 18 straight wins this season, Medvedev suffered some setbacks in reaching the title-deciding round, losing seven match points and failing to finish the match 5-4, 6-5 in the second set.
Luckily for the Russian, he didn’t let the serving Yips affect him in the subsequent tie-break, in which he relieved his opponent.
Medvedev’s previous wins have included three-set wins over Ilya Ivashka and Alexander Zverev, the latter encounter also resulting in a potentially difficult ankle injury. He did well to shrug it off, but Alcaraz will present a different – and difficult – challenge for the fifth seed.
After his victories at the Rotterdam Open, ATP Doha and ATP Dubai this year, can Medvedev now win his fourth ATP title in five weeks?
Alcaraz v Medvedev prediction and tip
Alcaraz has a slight advantage on these courts, which aren’t as fast as some of the courts Medvedev may have encountered in Rotterdam, Dubai and Doha earlier this year. That’s also why Alcaraz starts with a 4/5 favorite and we have to follow that.
