4-star Ohio safety guard Ben Minich is involved with Notre Dame Football

On Friday, 4-star safety Ben Minich made his public pledge to join the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their 2023 recruit class. A native of West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West), the Irish picked the Cincinnati Bearcats, Louisville Cardinals, Kentucky Wildcats, Oklahoma Sooners and many others.

Minich’s player rating is all over the map on recruiting services, but one thing that’s not in question is that this kid can fly onto the soccer field.

247 sports evaluation:

Fine athlete who played both ways as a wide receiver and safety in high school and has a track background that includes 100-yard dash times of up to 10.47. Has good directional change and close range quickness along with this long speed. Good ball skills off the offensive. Willing tackler who can always get stronger and add some bulk to add more pop as a hitter. With his athleticism and soccer IQ, he’s a safe bet to be a college starter and he will have a chance to play beyond college.

Ben Minich is now the 22nd signing in the 2023 class of Notre Dame — a class that is currently #1 according to 247 team composite rankings. He’s the second Irish Commitment to rank in Ohio’s top ten in 2023 (Brenan Vernon is the other), which is still a big deal when it comes to how Ohio State is recruiting its backyard, the Kentucky Insurgency and others from the region looking to add this classic Ohio athlete to his roster.

This commitment has nothing to do with Peyton Bowen’s situation. Notre Dame wanted five defenders in that class and now they have five defenders in that class.

Future 5th year eligibility is not shown in this table due to the COVID year. Subject to change.

Being a proud Ohioan myself, I’m very excited about this addition to Notre Dame’s class and applaud 247 Sports and ESPN for the correct 4-star ranking (while cursing everyone else). A really smart security with speed and can bring the physicality… IS THAT OHIO’S ZIBBY?! Probably not – but it’s those types of players (Tommy Zbikowski, Alohi Gilman, etc.) that have stolen my fan base and heart for years. This is fantastic.
