EL PASO, TX – The Sun Bowl Association and Southwest Flag Football League have teamed up again to host the second annual Sun Bowl Adult Flag Football Tournament in El Paso, Texas, Friday through Sunday, August 19-21. The multi-day tournament offers cash prizes for the winners.
The tournament is played at the Westside Sports Complex in El Paso and there are different levels. The tournament levels are as follows: Male (Recreational, Intermediate, Competitive), Female (Competitive), and Coed (Recreational).
“We at the Sun Bowl Association had a very good working relationship with the Southwest Flag Football League a year ago and are excited to bring this event back to the Borderland in the hope it continues to grow,” said SBA executive director Bernie Olivas. “We expect teams from out of town to participate and compete against our local teams. We remain committed to hosting events for the community while making a positive economic impact on our city.”
Squads consist of 14 members ready to compete in this 8v8 flag soccer tournament. All participants will receive a tournament gift bag with various memorabilia. The first-placed teams in all divisions receive a tournament champion belt and champion trophies.
The winner of the Men’s A competition and the Women’s A competition will receive cash awards. The cash prizes awarded are based on the size of the bracket. The champion of the competitive class with up to 16 teams will receive a payout of $2,000 and the champion of a group with more than 32 teams will receive $4,000. The winner of Men’s B – Intermediate Division, Men’s C – Recreational Division and Coed C – Recreational Division will receive $1,000.
Registration for the tournament closes on Sunday, July 31st or until the bracket is full, whichever comes first. All entry fees are $300 including all judge fees.
“Last year’s event was challenging because it was our first year, but working with the Southwest Flag Football League really enriches the event,” said Joe Daubach, Sun Bowl Association special events director. “It’s always exciting to be a part of yet another Sun Bowl Association event that brings so many people together to demonstrate El Paso and the hospitality of our community.”
Tournament Chairman Adrian Morales said, “It’s a great honor for me to be part of such a great organization as the Sun Bowl Association while strengthening our local flag football community. Giving them the opportunity to compete against teams from California to East Texas and Colorado to inland Mexico is exhilarating. This tournament will give them that opportunity.”
